Abstract

A meroditerpenoid previously isolated from the brown alga Cystoseira elegans Sauv. has been transformed by intramolecular acidic reaction into a new compound with a bicyclo[4.3.0.]nonane ring system occurring only in claraenone a tetraprenyltoluquinol derivative obtained from a Cystoseira sp. collected at Canary Islands. Structure determination and some biogenetic remarks are reported.
