This study highlights the recent development in aetiology of Bell’s palsy, defining moreover the borders of this clinical entity. In fact, the term “Bell’s palsy” is often used erroneously to define also peripheral facial palsy by known causes, while it must refer only to idiopathic forms. This clarification allow us a better clinical definition of this pathology and so a better therapeutic approach. Indeed, it is important to distinguish Bell’s Palsy, that generally have a good prognosis, by other pathologies with a worse prognosis, that can present a sudden-onset peripheral unilateral facial palsy.
