In the Lucanian Apennines the Neogene collision between Africa and Europe caused the subduction of the intraplate Lagonegro Basin beneath a continental ribbon, the Western Platform, belonging to the Adria continental paleomargin. During subduction, a main shear zone represented by a block-in-matrix tectonic melange involving exotics form both platform and basin units (the Moliterno Melange Complex) developed at the trailing edge of Lagonegro Units. Our analyses suggest that this tectonosome is the product of a crustal shearing occurred during the tectonic inversion of the Adria passive paleomargin.
