Conjugal relationships in those countries which experienced the so called ‘Arab Spring’ are the focus of this paper. At stake is the issue if the events which changed the political structure of those countries may affect the level of family law, and in particular of intraspousal relationships, which are deeply entrenched in the Islamic legal tradition. This model is marked from an asymmetry between husband and wife, in favor of the former. The issue is relevant not only as to the above mentioned countries, but also with regard to Europe. Since Europe has become multicultural, it has to deal with social and legal rules of diverse ethnic groups living on its territory which are different from (or even at odds with) the principles lying at the basis of the laws enacted from European countries.
