A longitudinal analysis of globalization and regionalization in international trade of nurserygardening products: a social network approach

The nursery-gardening sector is of great importance both for economically developed countries and developing ones. The representation of international trading as a network, is a useful tool to understand and measure phenomena such as the globalization and regionalization of the trading of nursery-gardening products between countries. In this paper, the network analysis approach has been used to understand the structure and the dynamics involved in the nursery-gardening trade taking place between the main producing countries on a global level. The results show that the main producing countries, have - in the last twenty years - increased their trading of nursery-gardening products on both „regional” and „global” scales, therefore demonstrating that globalization and regionalization can coexist without necessarily representing conflicting processes.
