Adenomyosis and uterus rupture during labor

A spontaneous uterus rupture occurred during the labour of a 37-week-pregnant woman show ing a pre co cious rup ture of mem branes. It ap peared en larged and the cut sur face of the myometrium showed coarse trabeculations. The hysthological ex am i na tion showed a hy - per tro phic gravidic my ometrium with het er o ge neous ar eas of fi bro sis and adenomyosis, ne crotic decidual foci and hyperplastic cer vi cal ca - nal glands. Our ex pe ri ence sug gests that a si lent and spon taneous uter ine rup ture, is pos si ble even in the ab sence of the prin ci pal risk fac tors. [Chin Med J (Tai pei) 2001;64:244-246]
