Abstract

In Greek rhetorical manuals of imperial period two different exegetical trends can be distinguished, a positive one regarding the use of allegory in poetry and artistic prose, and one that gives kind criticism because it may produce expressive ambiguity and stylistic obscurity. The texts of both tendencies are analyzed through comparative method, and the results may be interesting for history of classical rhetoric.
