Purpose: The purpose of the research is to analyse the normative framework of the protection of employees with cancer in Italy, underlining its inadequacy, and to pre- sent regulation proposals more appropriate and more compatible with national and supranational principles. Methodology: The methodology consists of a legal analysis of the laws applicable to the various aspects of the employment relationship in the case of an oncologic disease. Findings: The lack of an adequate regulation risks to create dangerous gaps in the protective framework with respect to the specific needs of the employees affected by cancer. Research limitations/implications: The research should also deal with an in-depth study of the implications of several types of onco- logic disease on employment relationship. The positive impact of this article could be to draw attention to a subject still not enough studied. Originality: The originality of this paper lies in the attempt of finding regulative proposals more protective and suit- ed to the needs of employees with cancer.
