Abstract
Differently from QED, the strong coupling β-function of non-abelian gauge theories is related to the long wavelength field configurations. To get an insight we discuss the renormalization group equations for the effective potential in arbitrarily large quantization volumes. The contribution of the Nielsen-Olesen unstable modes to the energy density of constant background fields may be indicative of the existence of an infrared Landau pole in pure Yang-Mills theories.File in questo prodotto:
