Abstract
We examine the well-known sesterce minted by Nero, on which the harbour at Ostia is represented. On it, we recognize a statue of Neptune standing on a column built on the seabed. The same image appears in Ostia, in the House of the Harbour Mosaic: the replica of the iconography in the local area suggests that this harbour ornament, laden with symbologies functional to the harbour (i.e. annonaria) policy of the Giulio-Claudi, was truly erected in the Claudio’s port.File in questo prodotto:
