This essay, through a survey of both Ortega y Gasset’s texts and the most important critical interpretations of his thought, addresses the relationship, established by the Spanish philoso- pher, between philosophy and literature, concept and imagination. In doing so, this work shows the reasons why the metaphor is the main Orteguian expressive medium, and why Ortega y Gasset thinks that man is a “metaphorical animal”. Finally, the author tests the idea of the Orteguain philosophy as a metaphor or, at least, as a metaphorical philosophy.

Abstract
This essay, through a survey of both Ortega y Gasset’s texts and the most important critical interpretations of his thought, addresses the relationship, established by the Spanish philoso- pher, between philosophy and literature, concept and imagination. In doing so, this work shows the reasons why the metaphor is the main Orteguian expressive medium, and why Ortega y Gasset thinks that man is a “metaphorical animal”. Finally, the author tests the idea of the Orteguain philosophy as a metaphor or, at least, as a metaphorical philosophy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
