To evaluate the efficacy of PLGA, an alloplastic biomaterial obtained by polimerization of polylactic and polyglycolic acid in intrabony periodontal defects. Methods: PPD, CAL and Rx images were evaluated with the Student's t test to compare test sites and control sites (treated with traditional flap surgery) in the same patient. Results: The study allowed to assess the osteoconductive ability of the material used, the effective healing of intrabony defects associated with radiographically documented bone regrowth, and absence of complications. Conclusions: Regenerative techniques in periodontology allow to reduce the depth of the periodontal pocket, thus leading to the complete recovery of supporting tissues. In order to obtain successful and predictable results, clinicians must choose very carefully among the various treatment options available, making the most of any characteristics of the biomaterial chosen. © 2009 Elsevier Srl.
