Abstract

The problem of extracting the spin-Hamiltonian parameters from EPR spectra of randomly oriented samples (powders and frozen solutions) for the particular case of chromium (III) complexes is reconsidered. The need for anisotropic and transition dependent linewidth parameters to match experimental and simulated spectra is stressed. The phenomenology of the EPR spectra for different values of the axial D and rhombic E zero-field splitting parameters is discussed. Finally, a few X-band experimental spectra are reported and analyzed through this procedure.
