This paper aims to highlight the mixtures, the coexistences, the syncretisms found from Hellenism to Late Antiquity in Cappadocia, an Anatolian region where, through Jewish-pagan rituals, not only ancient Anatolian deities, such as Μᾶ/Bellona, did continue to be worshipped ‘reabsorbed’ in the classical pantheon, but also where Judaism could sometimes ‘meet’ with pagan initiation ceremonies, giving rise to phenomena of ‘hybridization’, like the cult of Ζεὺς Σαβάζιος.

Abstract
This paper aims to highlight the mixtures, the coexistences, the syncretisms found from Hellenism to Late Antiquity in Cappadocia, an Anatolian region where, through Jewish-pagan rituals, not only ancient Anatolian deities, such as Μᾶ/Bellona, did continue to be worshipped ‘reabsorbed’ in the classical pantheon, but also where Judaism could sometimes ‘meet’ with pagan initiation ceremonies, giving rise to phenomena of ‘hybridization’, like the cult of Ζεὺς Σαβάζιος.File in questo prodotto:
