The Ibm smart city as product of neoliberalisation of corporate social responsibility. – In this article I discuss the IBM smarter city initiative as a product of the neoliberalisation of corporate social responsibility. I focus firstly on the discursive and practical production of a new generation of social business initiatives during last decades, and I argue that this process can be interpreted in a theoretical framework of rolling-out neoliberatisation. Then, making use of IBM’s case study, I scrutinize how the Smarter city initiative acted as tools of re-territorialisation of neoliberalism during the global recession. The aim of the manuscript is to show how neoliberalism is created in and through new in-between spaces that set new rules and forms of cross-fertilization among corporate and territorial governance.
