The spectral absorptivity of brass and copper in the optical range (400-650nm) has been measured using a calorimetric method, for a series of rough cold-worked metal surfaces. Results depend strongly on the surface roughness and weakly on the light wavelength. The total absorptivity for white light (2870 K) reaches 34% on copper samples. © 1984 Springer-Verlag.
