This paper aims to show - through the analysis of judgments and archive documents - how the Italian Government guaranteed legal protection to the own immigrants in US between XIX and XX century. It will be shown what kind of legal problems Italian immigrants had to face. In particular, it will be paid attention to the disputes in matter of labor due to discriminatory State legislations, and to the diplomatic countermeasures adopted by the Italian Government in order to protect its subjects.
