A new water-soluble calix[5]arene 1, bearing 4-butylsulfonato pendant groups at the lower rim, has been synthesised. This derivative shows aggregation properties in water. Critical micellar concentration (cmc) for 1 has been calculated by means of DOSY NMR and fluorescence spectroscopy. When n-dodecylammonium chloride is added to 1 below its cmc, the resulting 1:1 endo-cavity inclusion complex behaves as a supramolecular amphiphile providing a new micellar aggregate.

Abstract
A new water-soluble calix[5]arene 1, bearing 4-butylsulfonato pendant groups at the lower rim, has been synthesised. This derivative shows aggregation properties in water. Critical micellar concentration (cmc) for 1 has been calculated by means of DOSY NMR and fluorescence spectroscopy. When n-dodecylammonium chloride is added to 1 below its cmc, the resulting 1:1 endo-cavity inclusion complex behaves as a supramolecular amphiphile providing a new micellar aggregate.File in questo prodotto:
