The recent excavations in the area of the theater of Agrigento, directed by Valentina Cammineci, Concetta Parello and Serena Rizzo, archaeologists at the Park of the Temple Valley, has brought to light a sequence of buildings through which it is possible to reconstruct the history of the city, from the first urban manifestations to the late ancient and Byzantine phases. The stratigraphy has in fact highlighted three distinct construction phases dated between the fifth century and the beginning of the second century BC. as regards the theater area, and a continuity of life until the Byzantine Age. Researches in this sector of the city are carried out in the framework of a new general reading of the urban plan.
