Verga in viaggio. 1897, un inedito percorso fotografico

In order to underline the imperative necessity to realize a critical edition of the corpus of Giovanni Verga’s photographs, it is reconstructed, with unpublished documents and a systematic revision of the epistolaries, a moment of the photographic activity of the writer. Proving the attribution, the dating and, with the support of historical photographs in comparison, the relocation of the footage of a group of photos received in prints without negative and till now unpublished due to the prevailing belief that the writer did not print his photos, the sequence is reconstituted along the first part of the sojourn in Switzerland, in the summer of 1897, of the writer ‘armed’ of his super new Kodak Pocket.

Nell’intento di sottolineare l’inderogabile necessità di realizzare un’edizione critica del corpus delle fotografie di Giovanni Verga, si ricostruisce, con documenti inediti e revisione sistematica degli epistolari, un momento dell’attività fotografica dello scrittore. Comprovando l’attribuzione, la datazione e, con il supporto di foto storiche a confronto, la dislocazione delle riprese di un gruppo di fotografie pervenute in stampe prive di negativo e finora inedite per la prevalente convinzione che lo scrittore non stampasse le sue foto, ne viene ricostituita la sequenza lungo il primo percorso del soggiorno in Svizzera, nell’estate del 1897, dello scrittore, ‘armato’ della sua nuovissima Kodak Pocket.
