Baumann, H., D’Emerico, S., Lorenz, R. & S. Pulvirenti (2012): Supernumerary chromosomes and speciation processes in Dactylorhiza urvilleana subsp. phoenissa (Orchidaceae) from Lebanon.- J. Eur. Orch. 44 (4): 811-824. The chromosome number of Dactylorhiza urvilleana subsp. phoenissa B. Baumann and H. Baumann from North-Eastern Lebanon is reported for the first time, as well as the occurrence of supernumerary chromosomes in some specimens. The chromosome 2n=80 was similar to that of other polyploid species of Dactylorhiza. Some individuals coming from Ehden site, show cells with five supernumerary chromosomes (2n=80 plus 5B). Some of them are fully heterochromatic. These results suggest that heterochromatic supernumerary chromosomes in D. urvilleana subsp. phoenissa seem to emphasize an ecological adaptation, which is a primary factor for the speciation processes.

Abstract

Baumann, H., D’Emerico, S., Lorenz, R. & S. Pulvirenti (2012): Supernumerary chromosomes and speciation processes in Dactylorhiza urvilleana subsp. phoenissa (Orchidaceae) from Lebanon.- J. Eur. Baumann, H., D’Emerico, S., Lorenz, R. & S. Pulvirenti (2012): Überzählige Chromosomen und Artbildungsprozesse bei Dactylorhiza urvilleana subsp. phoenissa (Orchidaceae) aus dem Libanon.- J. Eur. Orch. 44 (4): 811-824.
