During the terrible sequence of bombings that hit Terracina from September 1943 to May 1944, the ancient Town Hall Square - the centre of civil and religious life in the town - was devastated by the collapse of the Town Hall, the Customs Palace and the curtain of houses towards the valley that opened up an unusual view of the sea panorama towards Mount Circeo. The ruins reveal important fragments of an ancient past and thus the square becomes a place of debate among reconstruction strategies and expectations, interpretations of the past and visions of the future, which see architects, archaeologists, institutions and - not least - the citizens called to express themselves in ways that can also question our present-day.

Abstract
During the terrible sequence of bombings that hit Terracina from September 1943 to May 1944, the ancient Town Hall Square - the centre of civil and religious life in the town - was devastated by the collapse of the Town Hall, the Customs Palace and the curtain of houses towards the valley that opened up an unusual view of the sea panorama towards Mount Circeo. The ruins reveal important fragments of an ancient past and thus the square becomes a place of debate among reconstruction strategies and expectations, interpretations of the past and visions of the future, which see architects, archaeologists, institutions and - not least - the citizens called to express themselves in ways that can also question our present-day.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
