A specific application of two psychological measures on pelvic organ prolapse patients.

he attitude and practice towards patients with pelvic organ prolapse are of ongoing interest, especially as this disorder has a worldwide distribution. Aim of this paper was to investigate quality of life in these patients. Methods. Perceived Negative Affective Self-efficacy Scale and Experience of Shame Scale were administered to 80 women suffering from pelvic organ prolapse. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson's correlation were run for statistical evaluation. results. Data showed that shame and emotional self-efficacy were significantly and negatively associated. Severity of pelvic organ prolapse grade and length of the pathology were found to be the most relevant factors interfering with Quality of life. Conclusions. Results found that women with high pelvic organ prolapse grades were more ashamed and perceived themselves less self-efficient than women with a low grade. These negative psychological outcomes should not be undervalued
