The use of temporary housing units, in the ordinary meaning is connected to emergency situations, when it’s necessary to give an immediate response to a sudden demand for housing. The use of prefabricated housing units, thanks to their transferability and adaptability to several settlement contexts and to the different requirement of potential users, can be agood solution to answer to these needs; but the idea of an exclusive use related to emergencies should be overcome. These buildings can be efficiently used in several ways: for agricultural activities, to answer to the labor mobility linked to seasonal production cycles, as houses for mobile yards’ workers or for sites located far from cities, or even as buildings used for limited periods, such as tourist residences or holiday houses. Three different projects concerning transferable housing modules are illustrated; they are designed to be easily transported and assembled on site, comfortable, sustainable, with low energy consumption and also expandable to adapt themselves to different requirements.
