Vincenzo Consolo was a writer deeply linked to the Greek roots of the Sicilian civilization; but equally profound is his interest in the Arab roots of Sicily and the cultural and commercial ties that, through the Mediterranean area, the Sicilians and the peoples of the Maghreb have maintained for centuries, up to the recent waves of Maghreb immigration to Sicily and Italy. Consolo was a participant and politically inflexible witness of these phenomena, often tragic. This study reconstructs the relationship between Consolo and Arab culture and the evolution of this relationship in a biopolitical sense.
Vincenzo Consolo è stato uno scrittore profondamente legato alle radici greche della civiltà siciliana; ma altrettanto profondo è il suo interesse per le radici arabe della Sicilia e per i legami culturali e commerciali che, attraverso lo spazio mediterraneo, i siciliani e i popoli del Maghreb hanno mantenuto per secoli, fino alle recenti ondate di immigrazione maghrebina in Sicilia e in Italia. Di questi fenomeni, spesso tragici, Consolo è stato testimone partecipe e politicamente inflessibile. Questo studio ricostruisce il rapporto tra Consolo e la cultura araba e l’evoluzione di questo rapporto in senso biopolitico.
