Abstract

The association of art and life between Dario Fo and Franca Rame has often caused the latter to be considered a mere complement, a subordinate half, for some even a heavy "sexist mortgage". And yet, starting from the Seventies, Rame developed a direction that was in some ways autonomous from that of her husband (for whom she always remained a sort of editor), which manifested itself in a need for creative expression free from Fo's presence and magisterium and thanks to which she wrote her own texts for the stage (Parliamo di donne, Tutta casa, letto e chiesa, Lo stupro, L'eroina, Grasso è bello!). A woman who becomes the representative of a line of theatrical narration aimed at the stories and voices of the other "half of the sky". While not denying the role that made her famous in the 1950s, the Italian Rita Hayworth, as Rame was called, broke the clichés of the world of show business, enriching the voices and functions of the women she played, in the elaboration of new female identities up to the so-called "New Woman". The contribution, also thanks to the precious sources kept in the Rame-Fo Archive, focuses on the writing of Rame who now tells her story through her dramas, now through letters (Love letter to Dario, 2013) and who feels the need, at some point in her career, and who feels the need, at a certain point in her career, to approach the genre of autobiographical narration in order to give us the most intimate portrait of her, "the last born of the theatrical brood overflowing with females", in what today appears to be a theatrical affabulation dedicated to an audience to whom the "recitation" of her own memories is addressed.
