Several studies have revealed sex-related differences in responding to the COVID-19 disease, with men appearing to suffer more severely from a medical perspective, whilst women are more exposed to the impact of the pandemic because of high-risk jobs and more responsibilities for caring for the sick and vulnerable. Therefore, considering the gender dimension of the pandemic could help mitigate the serious and long-term inequities of its socioeconomic consequences. Hence, the urgent need to incorporate sex and gender analysis into research and innovation, which has become a main target of the EU’s funding Program “Horizon 2020” and a key principle in addressing the current outbreak through EU action.

Abstract
Several studies have revealed sex-related differences in responding to the COVID-19 disease, with men appearing to suffer more severely from a medical perspective, whilst women are more exposed to the impact of the pandemic because of high-risk jobs and more responsibilities for caring for the sick and vulnerable. Therefore, considering the gender dimension of the pandemic could help mitigate the serious and long-term inequities of its socioeconomic consequences. Hence, the urgent need to incorporate sex and gender analysis into research and innovation, which has become a main target of the EU’s funding Program “Horizon 2020” and a key principle in addressing the current outbreak through EU action.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
