Abstract

The author analyzes the inscription of Aurelius Samohil, found in Catania, and places it in the context of Sicily culture and religiosity, according to an acculturation perspective. The analysis shows that the epigraph is not an expression of the magical Judaism, so widespread in the southeastern sector of the Island, but of an aware Jewry that wants to integrate and to feel close to the Roman elite, whose language it uses.
