Lo cunto de li cunti by Giambattista Basile is an archetypal , capable of soliciting forms of adaptation and rewriting of great interest over time. The cinema of the new millennium recovers Cunto's fairytale matrix through two different practices: Garrone stitches up discursive fragments taken from three Basilian stories and gives life to the visual mosaic of Tale of tales (2015); Gatta Cenerentola (2017) is instead an 'animated' translation of the homonymous story immersed in a dystopian horizon, which recreates the atmosphere and plots of the original. The essay analyzes the main adaptive lines of the two films with specific references to the elements of what we can define as a real media archeology.
