A total of 16 strains of Actinomyces viscosus and 9 strains of Actinomyces naeslundii isolated from sub-gingival plaque depositis with Streptococcus salivarius NCTC 3165 were tested for their ability to coaggregate. A specific highly reproducible coaggregation was observed for 11 strains of A.viscosus and 7 of A,naeslundii. The coaggregation nechanism was inhibited by 1M NaCl and was calcium and pH dependent. Therefore, a molecular mechanism is hypothesized to exist between recetors of a proteidic nature in actinomyces and carbohydrate sitated on the streptococci.

Abstract
A total of 16 strains of Actinomyces viscosus and 9 strains of Actinomyces naeslundii isolated from sub-gingival plaque depositis with Streptococcus salivarius NCTC 3165 were tested for their ability to coaggregate. A specific highly reproducible coaggregation was observed for 11 strains of A.viscosus and 7 of A,naeslundii. The coaggregation nechanism was inhibited by 1M NaCl and was calcium and pH dependent. Therefore, a molecular mechanism is hypothesized to exist between recetors of a proteidic nature in actinomyces and carbohydrate sitated on the streptococci.File in questo prodotto:
