Elementi per una carta sismotettonica della Sicilia e della Calabria meridionale

As a contribution to the seismic zoning of Calabria and Sicily a subdivision of this area in zones showing a distinctivc neotectonic seismic and gravimetric character is proposed. The seismic activity of the Straits of Messina presents the highest values of the region studied and probably of Italy. The system of normal faults NE-SW directed of the Mèsima basin, $trait of Messina and Hyblean plaleau can be ascribed to extensive phase of Upper Pliocenc-Lower Plcistocene. Seismic data final1y indicate a stress field witha compression axis NNE-SSW orientd and a distension axis perpendicular to it.
