ussr ‘Under Investigation’ in Cinema: the Story of an Italian-Soviet Documentary Film · The article deals with a documentary film dedicated to the Soviet Union and pro- duced by Italy and the ussr. This movie, directed by Romolo Marcellini, was the first joint production of the two countries. This risky collaboration passed through a number of dif- ficulties to ultimately appear in two versions, Russia sotto inchiesta (1963, Italy) and Rossiia glazami ital’iantsev (1964, ussr). The different titles mark the different contents of the two pictures. This investigation dwells on the troublesome process of editing the screen scripts, held in archives in Rome and Moscow, which were the fruit of cultural and ideo- logical mediation between Italy and the Soviet Union.
