Pasolini’s artistic biography includes multiple experiences displaying his multiple talents, which made him able to cross different languages with results of great expressive power. While the interplay between literature and the visual arts have already been highlighted by scholars, a systematic analysis of Pasolini’s relationship with acting practices is still lacking. Despite having played as an actor only in a limited number of films, he develops an acute reflection on the effects of an actor’s identification with characters, thereby adding a further layer to the already diverse mosaic of his talents. The present essay proposes a first mapping of the roles played by Pasolini (both in his own films and others’) in order to point out the influence of those interpretations on later theories of cinema and on the relationship with the many bodies put on the screen.
