Dystrophic rhinitis: etiopathogenetic mechanisms and therapeutic strategy for functional recovery

Dystrophic rhinitis is characterized by a progressive alteration of the mucosal trophism, associated with a reduction in the muciparous glands’ functional activity and consequent reduction in mucus production (1). Dystrophic rhinitis symptoms include anosmia, epistaxis, sneezing, crusted intranasal formations, pharyngeal irritation, and breathing discomfort (2). Many treatments have been proposed to relieve local symptoms, among which, a new multi-component medical device seems to be promising, as it contains D-panthenol, hyaluronic acid (HA), vitamin E, vitamin A, and biotin.
