La "Montagna" di Nissoria (EN): le opere di fortificazione

On the Mount of Nissoria (EN), we can identify the remains of a fortification of the summit plateau. The wall is made of rough stone, laid in double faces with émplecton of minutes stones. Works of this type, in Sicily, have been attributed in the past on a formal basis to indigenous element, placing them in opposition to the opus quadratum attributed to Greek colonists. This interpretation did not take into account that fortifications in "irregular polygonal" (opus siliceum) are present in Greece and the sources (e.g. TUC. IV, 4, 2) report that Greek military architecture as based simply on the stone collection (λίθοι λογάδες)

Sul Monte di Nissoria (EN), possono individuarsi i resti di una fortificazione del pianoro sommitale. La muraglia è realizzata in pietra grezza, apparecchiata in doppi paramenti con émplecton di pietrame minuto. Opere di questo tipo, in Sicilia, sono state in passato attribuite su base formale all’elemento indigeno, ponendole in contrapposizione all’apparecchio rettangolare ascritto ai coloni greci. Questa interpretazione non teneva conto del fatto che fortificazioni in “poligonale irregolare” (opus siliceum) sono presenti in Grecia e che le fonti (ad es. TUC. IV, 4, 2) riferiscono di architettura militare greca basata sulla pietra semplicemente raccolta (λίθοι λογάδες)
