We are pleased to edit the Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Ion Beam Modification of Materials, IBMM 2006, which was held in Sicily in the ancient convent San Domenico Palace Hotel, Taormina (Italy), during 18-22 September 2006. The IBMM conference series is a biannual meeting that brings together scientists from all over the world to present the most recent results and to discuss the future trend in the field of ion beam processing. The first conference in the series was held in Budapest in 1978, the most recent in Asilomar (California) in 2004.
