La diva che scrive, la diva de-scritta. Letteratura e performance di e intorno a Marilyn

This essay intends to follow the presence of Marilyn’s myth in literature (in particular in the autobiographical pages of the actress, in the screenplay of The Misfits by Arthur Miller and in the novel Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates). The examples will represent case studies which are particularly significative to the exploration of the ambivalence in the interplay between written production and performance, and also to test the hermeneutic soundness and to verify the extent of the critique category called "divagrafia" (writings by and on divas) - a category built at the intersection of cultural, visual, celebrity and stardom studies. Specifically, this research aims to highlight the effects of such juxtapositions in the literary field in order to attempt to unravel the ambiguities in the relation of the verbal, gestural and performative signs which coalesce around the star persona. The ultimate goal is to clarify the role and function attributed to the words used to tell the life of Marilyn, as well as the meaning they take on within the boundaries of storytelling which are defined by her mythology..

Il presente contributo intende pedinare le tracce della presenza del mito di Marilyn sedimentate nella produzione letteraria (in particolare nelle pagine autobiografiche dell’attrice, nella sceneggiatura di The Misfits di Arthur Miller e nel romanzo Blonde di Joyce Carol Oates). Tali casi di studio consentono di indagare le ambivalenze dell’interplay fra scrittura e performance e di saggiare la tenuta ermeneutica e verificare l’estensione della categoria critica di “divagrafia” (scrittura delle dive e sulle dive) – categoria che si costruisce a partire dalla convergenza di cultural, visual, stardom e celebrity studies. Nello specifico, questo studio è volto a mettere in luce gli effetti di tali sovrapposizioni in campo letterario per provare a sciogliere le ambiguità delle relazioni fra segni verbali, gestuali e performativi che si coagulano attorno alla costruzione della star persona e per tentare di chiarire quale ruolo e quale funzione vengono attribuiti alle parole che raccontano la vita della diva e quale significato assumono entro i confini dello storytelling che definisce i contorni della sua mitologia.
