in this paper the recent evolution of archaeological tourism, part of the largest cultural, is analyzed. in last years the request of a kind of travel focused on experience more than on the location, has grown. analysts and scholars on cultural tourism and on the, more recent, co-creative tourism, outlined the new exigency of visitors to transform their trip into a more involving experience. this last, in fact, should include the active and direct participation into the visiting process, and should be almost unique. Experiential tourism, today, seems to surpass the traditional one just aiming to involve the visitor in a sensorial travel. for what concerns archaeological tourism, this tendency has implications not to be ignored. the immersive visit, together with the use of new technologies and devices for the augmented reality or virtual visit of the site or archaeological monument, in fact, risks of dividing the visitor from the original, by losing his sense of place and by depriving the monument of its value.
