This article explores the relationship between the forms of time, the narrative structure and the ethical dimension of literary experience in the short-story Tianxia luan 天下 卵 (2012) written by the contemporary Chinese writer Feng Tang 冯唐 (1961–), by borrowing the definition of sideshadowing proposed by Morson. It will be discussed how Tianxia luan implies the presence of a peculiar sense of truth (zhenshi 真实) and proposes a variety of narrative techniques perfectly capable of representing time as ‘open’.
