Narrazioni visuali, proteste, rivendicazioni: le trame intrecciate dei linguistic landscapes a Barcellona

The work is aimed at evaluating the linguistic landscapes of two districts in Barcelona in order to scrutinize their reciprocal relations by critically mapping the conflictual forces, the power relations and the different ways through which the signs left in public spaces reshape urban forms and functions. Based on a multi-method perspective at the interplay between ethnography and visual approaches, the research identifies three categories of linguistic landscapes related to retail, protests and institutional branding. By evaluating their diffusion, spatial relations and symbolic overlapping, the work shows how the LL methodology is not limited to the analysis of multicultural territorial contexts, but it can be useful to scrutinize urban transformations.
