La Sicilia nelle Efesiache di Senofonte e il viaggio di Adriano nell’isola

The essay, through Xenophon Ephesian’s references to Sicily and its urban reality, identifies, within the meshes of narrative fiction, possible correlations with the Hadrianic period, to which the Ephesiakà have generally been attributed, and aims to grasp some connections between the novel and the ancient sources (literary, epigraphic and numismatic) on Hadrian’s stay on the island, a journey whose echo exercised profound suggestions on Marguerite Yourcenar’s celebrated Mémoires d’Hadrien.

Il contributo, attraverso i riferimenti di Senofonte Efesio alla Sicilia e alla sua realtà urbana, individua, tra le maglie della finzione narrativa, possibili correlazioni con l’epoca adrianea, alla quale in genere le Efesiache sono state attribuite, e mira a cogliere alcuni nessi tra il romanzo e le fonti antiche (letterarie, epigrafiche e numismatiche) sulla permanenza di Adriano nell’isola, viaggio la cui eco esercitò profonde suggestioni sui celeberrimi Mémoires d’Hadrien di Marguerite Yourcenar.
