Un arrêt du 9 septembre 2021 des chambres civiles réunies de la Cour de cassation italienne a pour la première fois imposé des restrictions à l’exposition du crucifix dans les écoles publiques. Le modèle de « laïcité de l’État » dégagé par cette décision est inédit, aussi bien au regard de la jurisprudence constitutionnelle antérieure qu’en comparaison avec d’autres systèmes juridiques nationaux (France, Allemagne, Canada, États-Unis).
