The paper aims to verify the applicability of ‘resilience’ – understood as the ability to «resist the adversities of life, to more or less severe crises» – to the Cappadocian landscape and above all to one of its exceptional protagonists: on the one hand, therefore, it examines the testimonies relating to the ‘traumatic’ events connected with the physical environment and the ‘perception’ that the ancient sources had, for another, it analyzes in detail the correspondence of Basil of Caesarea, a document of indisputable historical importance for the purposes of a clear understanding of the possible link between the health conditions of the Cappadocian Father and the geoclimatic context of the Anatolian region, where he lived and worked.
