Abstract
Between the late 12th and early 13th centuries the reconstruction of Cistercian abbeys of Fossanova and Casamari introducedan innovative approach to architectural design in southern Lazio. In terms of construction, the static model of wooden beams ondiaphragm arches to support floors or roofs was employed in the refectory, in the infirmaries and in the guest house of Fossanova;moreover they find practical application in Ferentino (Episcopal Palace), Anagni (Palace of Bonifacio VIII), Colleferro (Old Castle),Alatri (Palace of the Cardinal Gottifredo) and Sermoneta (Castrum Caetani). Starting from the analysis of the basic configuration,we therefore focus the geometric and constructive variations in different examples taking into account the chronology and theterritorial location. By this way we pay attention on the dialectic between regional architectural models and local identities in the13th century and, more extensively, on the relationship between model-copy-influence during the Middle Ages.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
