In this paper I propose the thesis of the three-dimensionality of the phenomenon of secrecy. The first dimension has to do with the necessity of guarding something without revealing it. The second illustrates the openness to the other of what is guarded. The third inheres in the guarding by a group. My thesis is that, in its pure form, secrecy inheres only in what is represented in the second dimension.
