Cipro nelle fonti storiche e letterarie bizantine (XI-XII sec.)

Cyprus was an important outpost of the Byzantine Empire and was at the center of troops, goods, ethnic groups’ exchanges in the Mediterranean area, related to Syria, Armenian Cilicia, Lebanon and Palestine. The characterization of Cyprus given by Byzantine ‘Intellectuals’ in their works (letters, poems, historical texts), is of a wealthy and fertile land, but, at the same time, it is represented as a remote place, far from the comforts and cultural refinements of Constantinople, the ‘Eye of the Oecumene’.
