The story of the reception of Sciascia’s books in Poland, before and after 1989, runs parallel to the political and social history of the country. Reviewing the translations that were published in both article and volume form, re-establishes the profile of a writer who quickly broke with the common, clichéd views of Sicily, to gain for himself, even among Polish readers, the role of a socially-committed writer interpreting the moral anxieties of a man of his time.
