Siracusa y el Mediterráneo. Entre el imaginario y la contemporaneidad

The discourse on the Mediterranean city has contributed to delineate the traits of a static, in some respects stereotyped, imaginary opposed to a dynamic, uncertain and ambiguous contemporary reality. The contrast between imaginary and contemporary reality makes it difficult to delineate the present and the future of the Mediterranean cities, including the city of Syracuse as such. The Mediterranean city is a city marked by a dense historical and cultural stratification in which the traces of the past coexist, overlapping and intertwined. But it is also a city fed by economic, social and cultural flows that lives and thrives on the interface between land and sea and whose climate represent the starting point and the synthesis to understand the Mediterranean lifeway. Stratifications, Flows, Interface, Climate are, therefore, the four interpretative keys through which the Mediterraneity of the city of Syracuse can be read and analysed. Each of them is declined and results in places, uses and social practices that all show that the Syracuse was, still is, and will continue to be a Mediterranean city.

Il discorso sulla città mediterranea ha contribuito a delineare i tratti di un immaginario consolidato, statico, per certi aspetti stereotipato, a cui si contrappone invece una realtà contemporanea dinamica, incerta e ambigua. La contrapposizione tra immaginario e contemporaneità genera la difficoltà di comprendere come si delinei il presente e il futuro delle città mediterranee e quindi anche della città di Siracusa. La città mediterranea è una città a elevata stratificazione storica e culturale in cui coesistono, sovrapposte e intrecciate, le testimonianze del passato. Ma è anche una città che si nutre di flussi economici, sociali e culturali, che vive e prospera sull’interfaccia tra terra e mare ed è contraddistinta da un clima che è punto di partenza e sintesi per comprendere il modo di vivere mediterraneo. Stratificazioni, Flussi, Interfaccia, Clima costituiscono, dunque, le quattro chiavi interpretative attraverso cui è possibile leggere e analizzare la mediterraneità della città di Siracusa. Ognuna di esse si declina e sostanzia in usi, pratiche sociali e luoghi che nell’insieme concorrono a definire come Siracusa sia stata, sia ancora, e continuerà ad essere una città mediterranea.
