Recent trends observed in olive oil sector seem to confirm a growing attention of international markets towards thisproduct. In last decades, extra virgin olive oil, thanks to its specific healthy properties, has registered an expansion ofits demand in new markets (North America, Asia, ecc.) and a consolidation in more traditional markets (Mediterraneancountries). This context has increased the levels of competitiveness determined by other European producers (Spain,Greece) and by Mediterranean countries outside the European Community (north Africa and Asiatic middle East).Sicilian olive growing represents a strategic factor of differentiation thanks to growing curiosity in internationalmarkets, due to the corresponding increase of olive cultivation surfaces and production and to the rise ofconsumptions of non-traditional consumer countries, characterized by a high interest in food products withqualitative superior standards. This study aims at examining the present state of extra-virgin olive oil production in Sicily and at verifying thelevel of efficiency achieved all over regional olive oil sector.

Abstract
This study aims at examining the present state of extra-virgin olive oil production in Sicily and at verifying thelevel of efficiency achieved all over regional olive oil sector.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
