The article investigates the various definitions and forms of enhancement and use of cultural heritage, attributable to Public Archeology, through an excursus on the origins of the discipline in the world and its implementation in the Italian cultural heritage. Starting from the critical issues, still current, related to access to cultural heritage and its use, the main experiments of models aimed at building and consolidating a relationship between the world of archeology and the public are reported. The discipline is expressed in various forms, through experimental use, the use of innovative technologies, web and digital platforms, three-dimensional reconstructions, laboratory and videogame products. The choice of communication to be put in place must necessarily pass through a long activity of reflection and discussion, even with experts from sectors outside archeology. It is necessary to pay the right attention to the public, its conformation and its differences. Without an analysis of the public, any activity related to the discipline is doomed to failure. The key to effective communication lies in the simplicity with which complex concepts are exposed. The role of the archaeologist becomes fundamental in society, when he succeeds in transforming himself into the mediator between the ancient and the contemporary, stimulating citizens to rediscover their past, with positive actions on the concept of identity and values of a local community. This is how the transformation of archeology into social science takes place, leading the discipline to reach its highest moment.
